WHAT'S AVAILABLE?
State rebates and Federal tax credits can fund over 45% of the cost of your
residential solar electric system, and an even larger percentage of your
commercial system.
CALIFORNIA REBATES
California's Million Solar Roofs program has a goal of adding 3,000 Megawatts of new solar-produced electricity to the grid by 2017. In support of this goal the California Solar Initiative provides over $2 Billion of incentives for solar installations on existing residences, and on new or existing businesses. Additionally, the New Solar Homes Program offers $350 Million of incentives for solar installations on new homes. The funds for these programs are collected by the state through utility ratepayers bills.
The size of the CSI rebate is based on your system's expected energy
production. A 3.3 kilowatt system installed in the 95062 zip code with clear
exposure and direct southern orientation can qualify for a rebate of over
$4,000. In order to make purchasing a solar system easier, Independent
Energy Systems will apply for the appropriate rebate for you and discount
the rebate amount from your system cost. This way you will not have to pay
out the additional $4,000 at the time of purchase and then wait three months
for your money to be returned to you. After the installation of your solar
system we will arrange the building inspection, complete the paperwork, and
submit the rebate claim. The CSI or NSHP will then pay the rebate directly
to Independent Energy Systems. For more information on government sponsored
rebates, click here.
FEDERAL INCOME TAX CREDIT FOR RESIDENTIAL SOLAR
The U.S. Government offers a NEW 30% tax credit on your solar energy system.
FEDERAL INCOME TAX CREDIT FOR COMMERCIAL SOLAR
For commercial installations the 30% Federal Tax Credit is also available. In addition, the Solar Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System (MACRS) allows commercial solar owners to apply an accelerated depreciation schedule to their solar property. The rules for the Federal Tax Credit are complex and should be reviewed with a tax professional.
